worst mpg in a SUV how to improve?

I have a 01 Yukon with the 5.3 L and the 3:73 diff and im getting around 8-9 mpg in the city and its NOT towing or having extra weight in it? how to get better fuel economy?
NOPE NEVER GOING TO sell it its awesome but would changing the spark plugs and some other things better fuel economy?
 
that thing weighs what 5,000 lbs? thats about all you will get around town, that is a big heavy rig
 
put 40 pounds of air pressure in your tires to help it roll easier.
