A friend said they found a 2004 FORD EXPLORER with only 49 miles (Yes, double digits NOT 49,000) for sale & considering buying it. Does this sound possible?
its rare, but it happens.remember it is still an older vehicle regardless of the miles.age will damage a vehicle.ive personally seen a 75 vette with less than 500 on the clock.i bought an 83 mustang gt in 1999 with like 68,000 on it.it had been stored for 12 yrs.
im guessing your friend found it on the internet, as it would be very easy to just look at it and tell if it was like brand new condition. now knowing new cars dont come with 0 miles on the odometer, it is possible but unlikely its genuine. the guy who said check for smog tests is right on it would at least have 1. you could also look for a title and temporary registration, the dealer it was originally sold. remember if this trucks been sitting for 7 years thats not good either.
Old time urban legends talk about brand new cars that are parked on the back of the sales lot and just 'forgotten' about, so the car sits for several years and is never sold. I can assure you that that doesn't happen in real life.
I would venture to guess that the only way a 6-year old car could have an odometer that reads 49 miles is if the speedometer was replaced with a brand new unit just 49 miles ago.
