people could trust themselves to be good, just for the sake of it, instead of needing the childish carrot or stick approach of these cults

Thanks
Rodd : Then no reason that's the person true character. rather shallow.
There are reasons to be good without God, you just have to find them within yourself

Abrahamic religions are the monotheistic faiths emphasizing and tracing their common origin to Abraham or recognizing a spiritual tradition identified with Abraham. They are one of the three major divisions in comparative religion, along with Indian religions (Dharmic) and East Asian religions (Taoic).

The three major Abrahamic religions are, in chronological order of founding, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Judaism regards itself as the religion of the descendants of Jacob, a grandson of Abraham. It has a strictly unitary view of God, and the central holy book for almost all branches is the Hebrew Bible, as elucidated in the oral law. Christianity began as a sect of Judaism in the 1st century CE and evolved into a separate religion—the Christian Church—with distinctive beliefs and practices. Jesus is the central figure of Christianity, considered by almost all denominations to be divine, typically as one person of a Triune God. The Christian Bible is typically held to be the ultimate authority, alongside Sacred Tradition in some apostolic denominations, such as Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. Islam arose in Arabia in the 7th century CE with a strictly unitary view of God. Muslims (adherents of Islam) hold the Qur'an to be the ultimate authority, as revealed and elucidated through the teachings and practices of a central, but not divine, prophet, Muhammad. Outside of these three well known religions, there are a number of relatively minor ones such as the Bahá'í Faith and Druze, both originally offshoots of Shi'a Islam.

The three religions have certain similarities. They are considered inextricably linked to one another because of a 'family likeness' and a certain commonality in theology: all three are monotheistic, and conceive God to be a transcendent Creator-figure and the source of moral law. The sacred narratives of all three of these religions feature many of the same figures, histories and places in each, although they often present them with different roles, perspectives and meanings. Although the three major religions are defined by common beliefs, they have many internal differences based on details of doctrine and practice. Christianity divided into three main branches (Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant), dozens of significant denominations, and even more smaller ones. Islam has two main branches (Sunni and Shi'a), each having a number of denominations. Judaism also has a small number of branches, of which the most significant are Orthodox, Conservative and Reform. At times and in various locations the different religions, and some of the branches within the same basic religion, have been in bitter conflict with each other to the extent of war and bloodshed.

As of the early twenty-first century there were an estimated 3.8 billion followers of these three Abrahamic religions. It is estimated that 54% of the world's population consider themselves adherents of the Abrahamic religions, about 30% of other religions, and 16% are non-religious.

"Being good" is not sufficient to God.He sent His Son to earth to teach us how to be righteous,a requirement for salvation, which Christianity in its purest New Testament form teaches.Yes it is true that Christians are directly responsible for much sin in the world, most notably war, :o but don't blame that on Jesus. HE TRIED!
Matthew 5
43You have heard people say, "Love your neighbors and hate your enemies." 44But I tell you to love your enemies and pray for anyone who mistreats you.

I see where your coming from but yes it would because it gives the fat cat mother fuckers a reason to kill the people they don't agree with.

You might as well ask if people can be good without secular law. The answer? Sure, some people can, but many people need a more structured framework to at least LEARN to be decent human beings. Our morals come from somewhere - parents, or society, or a church, or a set of laws (secular or religious really doesn't matter). They have to be enforced SOME way until we either mature enough to see the value in them for ourselves. Some people will never reach that stage - indeed, perhaps that's the MAJORITY of people. We still have some distance to go as a species; until we reach that point, SOME form of external moral framework will continue to exist. It will change over time, but for the foreseeable future, it's here to stay.

Bro,don't know about others but Islam will always exist because it gives the message of peace and universal brother hood. But only if you see the true Islam as in Quran and not the fake Islam of media.

No, if they were to put their beliefs aside and be good people then they'd be forced to admit their religions are wrong.

I dont know what to say to you because I would like to say the truth but my answer will be deleted.

I have answered other such questions honestly, with my knowledge and bingo, my answer got deleted.

All I can say is these above mentioned religions shun hinduism as a cultish religion and yet it is the oldest religion in the world and has survived thousands of years. So who is to say what will survive and what will not?

Ignorance is bliss and man lives by it in spite of being very well educated.

The goal of these religions is more than a moral guideline for living on the earth though. As long as people are curious about what may come after death, religion itself will always exist.

On the flip side, there is no reason to be good just for the sake of being good. If a pile of money was sitting in the open and no one could see you take it, would you do it? Most people would. ;-)

Very good , people in general are good on their own . Some people simply need the threat of hell.
