well, i aint a killjoy, far from it. And if noise and general mayhem bothered me i wouldn't have moved into the centre of Chatham, in the lovely Medway Towns.
But the pub nearest me really does take the piss for biggest shithole in all of Chatham. It even beats The Little Crown and The White Lion.
There's stacks of mess outside. It was my impression that businesses have to dispose of their trash in a prescribed manner? The Royal George stacks their black bags out the back (by where that footbridge crosses New Road) hence we are now plauged by rats.
Thats when they get it into black bags. My dads family have had interests in pubs and clubs round South London since before i was born and i know full well that even if they dont have to, they make sure the surrounding alleys and pavements are as clean as can be after a busy night. Outside the Royal George there's dried vomit for your consideration, and all other manner of bodily fluid, and i really do mean all.
Noise is to be expected in a rub a dub. But the DJ at this shithole plays his crappy tunes until gone 1 a.m. which dont bother me as such but there are 2 old folks homes in very close vicinity.
It reopened a few months ago after a change of ownership. These new landlords exercise no control over their patrons. Last night drinkers (i kid you not) were laying down in the middle of the road causing cars to swerve past them. Hi jinks to be sure but if you're going to have revellers of that ilk there then employ doormen.
The reason they dont probably has something to do with the following.
Want stolen goods? Want to fund Medways growing problem with substance abuse? Then head to the Royal George! I have lost count of the times i have seen deals going down as i walk past. On the one occasion i ventured inside, afer the re-opening i realised what kind of place it was when Billy the Quid wandered in, quite openly bought a ten wrap and walked out again. Herb is one thing although i dont indulge but heroin or crack?
The Royal George really is the shittiest pub in Chatham, even putting the White Lion to shame.
So would i be a tit about complaining? Who would i complain to? I hope it aint the old bill coz round here they're worse than useless.
