Would it be possible to extract the "middle" of a stereo recording?

There's a way to get rid of the "middle" - the well-known "vocal cut" method. But is there a way to get rid of the left and right channels and to leave only what's in the "middle"? i.e. only the sound that is common to the left and right channels.

Yes, it is possible using a technique similar to the vocal cut. Just transform the left and right channels to frequency space and see what they have in common. Then subtract that common part from both sides and transform back.
