Would it be "wize" of me to buy a 1993 Mazda MX-5 Miata?

I've always loved this car even though people view it as a girls car.
But the thing is how practical would it be?
Are they known for breaking down or expensive to maintain?

I'm also afraid that previous owners might have driven the car too hard because it's a sporty vehicle.
 
look my dad is in auto body and mechanical specialist and he said mazda first of all are very poorly built ,unreliable , and when you have to get them fixed it cost double the price in labor because they are set up to were everything is hard to get to.for example a chevy s10 it takes 30 min to get the alternator out. in a mazda or nissan or hoda or any other jap car it takes 2 hours. anyway bottom line mazdas are no good.
