I have a Sony kdl40w3000 tv. I don't really know anything about it or if it would benefit from blueray or if it would just stay the same quality. Also, with blueray I heard you also get more crisp sound. Should I also go all out and get a pair of speakers to go with it? Any information would help!

Yes, you would benefit in the higher video resolution of the blu ray disc movies. You would not be able to just connect a pair of speakers to the tv or you blu ray disc player. You will need to have a receiver and speakers to benefit the audio that the blu ray disc have. Those home theater in a box are not very flexible in adding anything to them or upgrading at a later date. They are designed for you to watch a movie with surround sound only. The only system that I would recommend is the Onkyo HT-S3400, it is a 5.1 receiver and a set of speakers. Panasonic make one of the best blu ray disc player in the market today. Look at the model BD-85 for standard blu ray disc or the 310 for the 3D. Keep in mind to watch 3D you will also need a 3D HDTV, 3D blu ray disc player, 3D blu ray disc movie and 3D glasses. You can go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on players. I own a first generation blu ray disc player from Panasonic which is over 4 years old and never had any problems playing over 300 blu ray disc movies. Hope this will help you out.

Your TV should benefit from Blu ray, somewhat you will see a somewhat clear picture along with better color rendition...the closer you sit the more you will notice this difference...2 speakers is not going to improve the sound much, what you need to improve sound over DVD is an AV receiver that can decode True HD and also Master HD then 5 speakers and a subwoofer of a higher quality placed strategically and calibrated to experience better sound....also the blu ray player needs to be connected using HDMI cables...to TV and receiver....
