Would you consider MMA a disgraceful art compared to the other?

One of my friends asked this question about a month ago. He thinks that MMA has pretty much took the philosophies behind Martial Arts and put em up in flames. I quote, "What's supposed to be used as self-defense has now been turned into an art that we use to gain money, respect and fame." I really can't care less about Martial Arts or fighting, so I didn't answer him. I just want to know what you guys think.
The thing that pissed off my friend the most was how the guy in that B-movie called "Never Back Down" used MMA to hurt people because he liked the rush he got from it. And he pointed out that you're not supposed to ever like hurting people/using your martial art on people.
Dude Delta I can't give the least bit of a damn about MMA. Just like it says in the question
