...about the election itself?

Simple questions, like "Which candidate wants to bring back 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell?'" or "Which candidate is opposed to universal health care?"

And if you couldn't answer, you couldn't vote.

Would it be better or worse if this system were in place?

It would be a system that would be far too susceptible to abuse.
It would just be one more tool of discrimination.
Also, I don't think that it does significant harm to our democracy when people vote on bullshi*t.
Most people are not going to ever vote for Dennis Kucinich or Ron Paul for president and part of the reason is their ugliness.Having said that, however, do we really want an ugly president to meet with foreign leaders around the world?
