characters perspectives? I'm writing a fantasy/romance novel, and I was wondering if it's weird or unusual to tell one chapter in my main female's p.o.v (1st person) and then in the next chapter tell the story in my main male's persepective (also 1st person).

I thought it would be kind of cool because readers would know what BOTH characters were thinking, and they'd get the full story. Plus it'll beef up my novel, which I heard fantasy romance novels tend to run a bit longer.

I think it's a good idea but I'm looking for opinions. I'm not afraid that it's going to get repetitive because my main characters usually aren't in the same place doing the same thing (it's complicated). And for the times that I will be describing the same thing twice (a scene, a kiss, whatever), it'll still be through two different people's eyes.

Whuddya think? I need opinionsss !

Ideally this is why authors choose third person writing to be able to describe everyones' perspective. Even third person limited will give you both hero and heroine's point of view in a grand way without going over board.

When writing in both POV's all I can say is that you better write well. Your audience will pick up on any transitions that are too jarring or that don't work or that are wrong. James Patterson does it in one of his Cross books so flawlessly that I was about six chapters in when I realized that he was going from the 3 person POV of the killer to the 1st person POV of Cross. It gave me a completely new respect for the authors and I went back just to analyze that bit of wordsmithing.

Hey

No, this isn't weird, it's happened in lots of books. If this is YA, then an example is Two Way Street - Lauren Barnholdt. It's a good idea, I agree, to get the two sides of the story

There was another author, I think it's Jodi P., who writes from multiple viewpoints, so it's not weird

Hope I helped
