I'm lookin into a dual sport bike to rode to and from camp dodge where I'm stationed for the next couple of months before I'm sent to active army. I need a bike that can go offroad SAFELY for both me and the bike and also on road SAFELY for me and the bike. I know riding a dirt bike on road eventually create problems so what do yamaha have to offer both now and in past? Preferably under 4 to 5 k's. Thank you!

Yamaha makes the wr250r dual sport. There are lots of videos of it on youtube. Don't listen to aholes who know fck all. The only issue is that it is a relatively new model and there aren't any used bike deals on it.
The klr650 is a popular bike, but it is 75% road. Too heavy for anything other than gravel roads.
Kawi klx250 is also a good bike. The only disadvantage is the CV carb which can have trouble on rough trails.
Suzuki makes a 400 dual sport, but it is too heavy for any serious trail riding.
Seriously, for two months, why not rent a car. Spending thousands on a bike for two months and then storage for 1 or 2 years doesn't make sense.

Bluto knows not of what he speaks. Seems to be a thing here on answers...

Yamaha has several dual purpose bikes, all under $5k. And they all make over 70 mpg. For used: http://www.cycletrader.com/Yamaha-Motorcycles/search-results?make=Yamaha|2321194&vrsn=hybrid&keyword=dual purpose XT's are outstanding little bikes.

And since you are in the military, I already know they will make you get some training. But for anyone else: http://online2.msf-usa.org/msf/Default.aspx

But Ayla makes a good point. Don't finance anything that is going to be mothballed in your parent's basement. Pay cash.

Actually you picked the one make that has absolutely nothing in their lineup. Zip Zilch Nada. In your price range get a Kawasaki KLR 650 used on Craigslist.
