Think about it, when the other birds heard the gun shot, they flew away; because it's mother nature.
0 is you think who's alive, and 1 if you think who's there (:
 
derrr not possible to know, you didnt say which bird you shot.
 
One dead bird and the rest fly away. So technically, you have zero live birds.

Edit: Aww, Maimunah beat me to it.
 
Some could have flown away while you were shooting the bird, you could have missed the bird, it could have been shot but still remain in the tree, etc. So no solution.
