well, when people didnt know it was bad for you, did they still hate it? i dont smoke but i love the smell of smoke. its not that different from campfire smoke or smoke from a grill...i personally think, that smoking is given such a bad image in our society, that people just learn to hate it in all ways.

We tend to forget how prevalent smoking was before the Clinton years. It was normal for people to smell of smoke, even if they didn't smoke themselves, because everyone around them did.

The anti-smoking age began in the 1990s, when Henry Waxman and his Committee of Doom eviscerated the tobacco industry for it's part in the great conspiracy to get people hooked on nicotine, never mind that this was an accepted part of our culture since the late 16th century. Today, everywhere is "smoke-free" and any whiff of smoke is immediately noticable. There always were people who hated tobacco, but now it's fashionable to be so.

Fine with me. Tobacco killed four of my uncles, one of my aunts, both of my father-in-laws, a lover, a great friend, and my fiancee.

I don't smoke cigarettes, but I love the smell of them. They probably would like the smell too if they didn't know it was "poisonous."
