you notice how some people will say "I think ____ is a better rapper, but ____...

...makes better music? does that not make sense any sense to anyone else. I mean i always though the ability to make good music was the most important part of being an emcee so if someone makes better music, they emcee better. I know maybe one emcee might connect more multi's or have more innies or better punchlines but if the music is lacking how can they be called a great emcee?

I think by that they mean they have better prodtuction and all that. Like Kid Cudi. He makes good music, but his skills as an emcee are meh, just average.

Eh, it makes sense but I wouldn't use it in many cases.

Like, I think R.A. The Rugged Man is a better rapper, but Sage Francis makes better music.

A lot of it has to do with content, consistency and the amount of material you release, too.
 
it does make sense. because it doesnt matter how good a rapper is, if he's rapping over garbage beats, i'm not going to listen to it. being an emcee is separate from being a producer. however, as a emcee, it is important what music you choose to go on your album. Ghostface says it best
