It had been sitting up for a while and after driving it now for about six months it idles up high while driving on the interstate. Is it the transmission going out???? Can it be fixed with a new filter and fluid or should i just get rid of it?

Today after leaving the library, my boyfriend drove my jeep and accidentally left the parking brake on for about 3/4 mile. I smelled something funny but it went away after we put the brake down. I tried the brakes after and they were fine. Do you think I should have it checked out?
