I don't know what tethering is and for some reason, I cannot find an answer online? All I can find is how to enable it.

Hello i have a jailbroken Iphone 3gs firmware 3.1.3 with the unlimited plan still on my contract. If i tether it to my laptop will i have any charges? I know the tether works tested it for a few mins. what if i called and asked about tethering? Can they tell it was from my laptop?
