whining

Hi, I just got a my first benz and I've heard this noise ever since the test drive, its not loud but its like an undertone to the engine. as the engine increases rpm, the noise increases in pitch. Is it normal and could it be just transmission noise like every other car.

There is no noise when car is idling, but noise appears if i rev the engine or accelerate. The noise disappears when press the clutch in. The noise seems to be dependant on the revs because when i press the clutch, revs fall back to 1 and noise disappears.
