My 17 month old son has been sleeping fine(8 hrs straight) till last month. But since last one month he just wakes up crying at the middle of the might and starts screaming eventually. He screams so loud that we can not even ignore it. If we just let him scream then he goes back to sleep after about 45 mins. He sleep in his own room for last 4 months. If we try to go to his room to give him his water sippy cup and to calm him he starts screaming even more for us to pick him up. That worsens the situation.
Please help.

sounds like nightmare or night terror. However, as i know night terror usually go away in mins and the baby will go back to sleep right after (most of them won't even fully awake when they have it), so i guess it is more like he is having nightmare (which woke him up). If so i think you need to go comfort him and make him feel better. I understand that sometimes it make him fuss even more when they see you, but it is better than leaving a scared child alone in the dark.

Try not to play too hard or too excited with him during the day, sometimes it will make them having nightmares.

At that age picking him up and comforting him reassures him someone loves him and cares. When no one comes or they show up and refuse to pick him up, he feels abandoned. You have to realize he can not communicate on an adult level yet and he is probably scared being alone, just tell him it is ok and to go back to sleep,to stop crying he is ok.

babies have nightmares too. r u sure you arent arguing with someone in his presence? that could have a lot to do with it. he may be depressed or stressed just like adults get. when he is crying, pick him up and comfort him. show him how much you care and do whatever you can to make him feel better. do this for a free days and see what happens.
also make sure nothing is going on during the day that will cause him to have nightmares.
hope this helps
