1994 Mercedes Benz C220... What would cause the AC to blow out really hot air?

When I turned on the AC this morning, really hot air was coming out of the vents. I tried to change the temperature but it just stayed hot. It is like the heater is on, it is REALLY hot. I don't know if the compressor is turning on, but when I turn on the AC the engine RPMs change, so I am assuming that the compressor is turning on.

Do you have any idea what could be the problem?
