1997 GMC Jimmy won't go into drive but goes in reverse fine (how to fix)?

ok i'm not really mechanically incline but today my gmc jimmy stopped while i was making a turn. now i've heard it could be a transmission problem, it will go in reverse but not drive or switch in 4 wheel drive could someone help me with this problem I hope its not THAT expensive to fix. thanks in advance
