1998 Buick Regal: My driver's windows fell into the door.?

It was moving really slowly last week and just last night, the window just promptly slid into the door. When I press the button, there's a whirring noise but clearly the window isn't positioned on any kind of lift or track. Can the door be opened up for me to lift it? If I bring it to a shop, what would the estimate be?
