2 things. why are all of by memorex DVD-RW disk write protected? and how do

i remve the write protection? i bought them brand new the other day from wallmart to come home and not be able to use them because when i insert the disk and try to put anything on it the disk tells me to format it. it gives me 2 options 1. format it so that it would work like it is supposed to as a re writeable disk or 2. as a read only disk after i put the files on it. i havent tried the read only portion because well i paid the extra for it to be rewriteable. i tried looking through the properties of the disk but couldent find a toggle for it :\
