I have a 2005 GMC 1500-WT which has that awful spare tire pulley assembly. Had a flat and could not get the tire down. Thank God I had a small set of bolt cutters and I cut the cable that supported the spare. Is there an older, simpler style of spare bracket that will fit on my truck so I won`t have to go through this again? I remember my Ford F15 had one that just hinged down and wasn`t overthought. Any suggestions would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

I have a 75 GMC that has a hanging spare tire carrier and with some tweaking it could be retrofitted to work with your 2005. I assume since it is a WT series you're probably running normal size tires? Any 75 through 87 GM Truck should produce a good donor assembly but remember some of those are pushing 40 years old and they might be bent out of shape a bit. A wrecking yard might have some in semi decent shape or you could try LMC Truck Parts. Also some models had a slide out version too. Either way keeping your GMC going with older GM products is always nice.

Good Luck,
Joe
