3 questions about my gerbils?

I got my 2 gerbils on October 30th. And they are just darlings, their names are Drake and Josh. Now, heres my first question.

I just bought them a hamster ball, and they dont roll in it! They stand there scratching at it. My mom said they may be to light to push the ball. They are fairly young, especially drake. Could it be that they are to light?

Question 2.
I want to get them another friend, but, i'm afraid they might fight. I had 2 hamsters before, and one got out. After about a week I found Coco and put her back in the cage. Then Cinnamon started fighting with her. And he eventually killed her. The petstore guy said it was because her smell changed, so i'm worried if I get another gerbil they will fight. I had 3 previous gerbils, but I bought them all at once.

Lastly,
Their water bottle leaks; alot. How can I stop this?

My daughter had several of them, I don't remember them playing with toys just chewing on old paper towel tubes. They were very sociable and I never saw them fight. If one does escape and you are concerned put a barrier between them until they get used to each other again but I don't think you will have a problem
