'96 Mustang, good/bad idea?

I am thinking of buying a 1996 ford mustang from a private party seller.

Here is what he put on his craigslist ad:
-v6
-166,000 miles
-"+20 mpg"
-ac & heat
-has gt wheels from 1999-2004 mustang.
-1 year old paint job
-gray cloth interior (no rips)
-jvc head unit
-Kenwood speakers

i think he/she wants around $3500 for it. hypothetically, lets say i pay that amount. i would probably make $1000 down payment and then pay the rest off over 3-4 year period.

does this sound like a good/bad idea to anyone?
and how much could i expect to pay on average for doing any work on it like maintenance/repairs in the first year of owning it?

any sort of input from anyone who has bought a used mustang before would be great.
also, are there typically a lot of repair costs/how much?
thanks

Sounds bad. You can buy a 94-97 Mustang GT for that price. I tend to be a bit harsh to the competition (I'm a Chevy Camaro kind of guy) but I know for a fact a 1995 Mustang GT goes for around $3500.
