A dog to help me while hiking.?

I am young, and I live in Montana, I hike a lot.
I haven't run into anything yet, but I probably will.

I want a dog, a good dog that will... patrol I guess you'd say.
I thought about getting a wolf cause they would let me know if a danger was near.
I have 2 dogs already, one will probably cower behind me, the other would attack it.
I don't take the one that would attack it.
She's a great dog, I don't want her dead anytime soon.

I'm looking for a beautiful dog that will get along with all my other dogs.
Will be fine off leash.
That will protect our house.
That is great fun to play with :D

And if I do run into something, I sometimes don't take a gun...
And even if I did take a gun, which I have many I can take, I would just rather not kill a bear or wolf, or anything that tries to kill me.
It would be nice to have a dog that can help me ward it away, but not hurt it.
Lol I know that's asking much, but dogs are amazing, they're are so many breeds that do different things.

I was thinking a husky, or malamute. I don't know.
Right now I have a GSDx with we don't know.
And my dog, which we have no idea what he is, he's black, floppy ears, he shepards, white spot on his chest. I love him he's a beautiful dog.

so any ideas? Hints? information?
I want the dog to be able to stand by me if the bear/wolf or whatever is challenging.
I just want the dog to stand by me if something did attack.

If a bear challenged and had attacked, I want the dog to at least give me time to get away.

If its a wolf, and it attacked, I would help my dog, A bear is the only thing I would leave my dog to die protecting me.
I understand that wolves do not travel alone, When I am out about that far into the forest or on a mountain I have 2 dogs, at least another person. And the people I hang out with usually have another dog to scout ahead.
They would also help their dog if it was something like wolf attacking.

any time a dog attempts to ward off a bear, wolf, or other large animal... then that dog takes the risk that the larger animal could kill it

even though you would prefer not to kill the bear, wolf, etc.....
and even though you don't want your dog dead

... you can't control the actions of a wild animal... a bear might easily be turned away or a bear might be in the mood for a fight

if the wild animal decides to fight & your dog decides to stay in the fight.... then there is nothing you can do other than realize the dog just gave the opportunity to get away & is trying to save you life --- get to a safe distance but not to far away & pray (to whatever higher power you pray to) that your dog will be okay

If you can handle the reality of that situation & if you can afford to properly care for another dog.... then you need to consider dogs that have been bred for these types of purposes

for example, Great Pyrenees.... were originally bred to protect the flock they watch from bears & wolves.... same with Anatolians and many other large guardian dogs.. Akitas also come to mind

if you choose to go this route... then before you do... PLEASE make sure you read up on the breeds... and be prepared to invest a great deal of time in training as these dogs are highly intelligent & prone to challenge authority
