A free cruising type of game?

Im not a huge gamer, i play them once in a while when I am bored. But I like games where you can do whatever you want and ignoring the missions. A more type of social game but not focused on social. I dont really like action games because they move to fast, but i like really good graphics and maybe an mmo or some type of game where i can just chill and walk around.
Ex: grand theft auto
preferably a downloadable game but if its really good and worth it i'll buy it
