I really wanted to go to Japan all growing up, but now I live with the international students (including about 7 Japanese Students), and though all of the Japanese students are completely different people from completely diferent areas, they all have the similar root of Japanese culture where they act nice to your face and trash talk you. They are all convinced that I only want to go to Japan because of anime and cosplay, and don't think I know that they are trash talking me. At this point, my desire to go to Japan has been killed, but I was wondering if it gets better when you're actually in Japan, or if everyone is really like that? Thanks!
And these aren't young students. They range from about 21-24.

Well they are teenagers, not everyone is like that. I have been to Japan twice, once for a foreign exchange student program and one for work a few years later. Most people think Americans only like Japan because of anime and they aren't very wrong to think that. But maybe they are trash talking for another reason? Try convincing them that you are very interested in learning and experiencing their culture, not for some juvenile reason: anime.

F*ck what others think!
Ima go to japan in 3 months
for the 1st time
so I don't really know anything about it
but I'm sure it's great from wha friends told me

People always have their opinions. Nazis think Jews are lower than them, it doesn't make it true. Same thing applies here. Do what you like. I also plan to move to Japan but it doesn't mean I want to go JUST for the anime and manga, though it is a nice bonus.
