Just say that after the war, if humanity was not wiped out, that some remnants of civilization returned. What would people use as currency? I assume that it would mostly be a barter system, but just out of curiosity what do you think would people use if actual money returned, like bottle caps in fallout 3?
I was thinking CD's and DVD's.

You can forget about using "fiat" money like bottle caps or dollar bills. These have no actual value in themselves... they are not "real," tangible assets. Fiat money only has value because the government controls the supply of it.

Alcoholic Beverages, Base industrial chemicals, Firearms and spare parts.

Forget precious metals that have no industrial use. Jewelry is not a priority in this scenario.

Water purification equipment would be worth its weight in gold.... err, ammunition. Again, forget gold.

Medical supplies, prescription drugs, chemistry equipment, mechanical wind-up clocks that would not be affected by an EMP flash.

cd's are too big to carry around
maybe people would come up with a way of living without any form of money
or maybe shoes would become currency
