I don't 'get' American humour and neither do many of the people I know. I LIKE American television. I like some American comedy too but most of it I just don't find funny at all.
However Americans don't generally understand British humour. I am British. The people I know love British comedy. They find the sarcasm and absurdness funny too... Most of them aren't generally keen on American humour though.
However I expect it is the same story in the USA too. You don't 'get' or 'like' our comedy whereas you much prefer your 'own'.
This is certainly not a rant at American television or culture, I am not even thinking about all that nonsense, but I just don't understand why people's sense of humour in two countries that speak vaguely the same language seem to be so incompatible...
