Anthony Kiedis incident. Your take?

Death is hardly glorious, it is how you live that matters.. no doubt many great men died on the crapper, doesn't take away from their achievements.

More often than not people I encounter are not impeding me for a reason quite as near death as you describe, and I am OK with the consequences if I am wrong.

Actually, any close protection team would be wearing pins when distributed like this - they are the receiving side of the security team (B) when team (A) arrives they would require identification within the unit.

Further to the close protection for a VIP location should also have access to a VIP whitelist, and I would argue that the lead singer of the Chilli Peppers should have been on it, recognized and allowed through.

Do you believe, based upon what you have seen that the owners of the hotel would not have wanted the lead singer of the chilli peppers, a guest in their hotel, to be granted access to the hotel?

If you honestly believe you will have the luxury of determining if it's not a life or death incident you are sadly mistaken. I know of and have personally seen the consequences of such choices. Despite what you may believe, it does often pay to stop and listen.

You can absolutely stop every time you are told to do so, but you can also decide when to stop and when not to.

For example - if there was a fire in a building and your child was inside - would you stop?

There are always going to be exceptions to the 'rules' it is your own paradigms and view of the world that will create the 'stop' points.

I can tell you for a fact that the most successful people in life didn't stop every time (and they also didn't push forward every time either) it is a balance, but much more towards getting things done than waiting around to be allowed to do them.

I understand where you are coming from, but I also believe we live in an overly coddled world, and often times procedure and policy gets in the way of common sense and is overkill. As mentioned, I am fine with being wrong.

I can't get my mind around that sense of self-importance. Having worked at the airport myself (Baltimore-Washington International), I can certainly acknowledge that security can be onerous and unwieldy. But I'm happy to live with the extra inconvenience in the name of the greater good. I know you're going to say that whatever you supposedly bypassed was unnecessary to the greater good. But, personally, I suspect neither you or I are really in the position to make that call.

Sorry but not every security detail wears stylish little pins. That's probably protocol for one agency but hardly a sweeping statement. Do you have a lot of personal experience working for/alongside protective security agencies?

Not every suit has the list either. If Kiedis had identified himself, stayed calm, and asked to be let in no doubt he would have been allowed in.

If he had stayed calm and talked, this whole thing would have never made it to YouTube.

Distributed teams tend to wear the pins much more commonly than others, and it is likely that Keidis knew this guy was close protection operative due to his own exposure to them.

The firms I know, everybody has the list (especially the guy on the front door) it is a lot easier with smartphones and people without the list will just snap a pic of it for reference.

There should have been communication between hotel security and security teams for the stones and the chilli peppers, even if the latter wasn't announced as was travelling low key they would have still been flagged by hotel operations as a VIP and that would have got them on the list.

Indeed. But if the security was better he wouldn't have needed to. (felt the need to perhaps)

Probably, but he's a "rock star" and knows how to play the game.

He's made the headlines and for him and his band that's a positive step.

We have a similar "star" in the UK, Liam Gallagher, formerly of Oasis.
I've never seen an interview where he isn't an obnoxious ass.

He's probably a really nice guy, but he's just playing the game and has sold millions of records through clever publicity.

A good point, and what I was thinking here from Kuma:

Was that what if it had made it to YouTube - what if there was a story:

Keidis made to stand around in street whilst much more important people were escorted around.

Being snubbed when you have an image does factor into things also.

From what news sources say, the male was part of an auxiliary detail for the Stones so he wouldn't be wearing anything identifying himself as part of an agency he is not employed by. He rightfully assumed he was just an unruly Stones fan as it seems Kiedis never identified himself (onlookers screaming his identity is what stopped the incident) and shoved the man first.

Distributing VIP lists to everyone is a bad move, especially digitally, as it can easily become a security leak which is the last thing you want if you're trying to keep things low key. Most of the agencies I have worked alongside here in PA (which is where this took place) regularly only have one printed/handwritten list the supervisor holds onto.

Kiedis was just most likely jacked off as nobody seemed to know who he was. Oh well, so sad.

Fairly agreeable comments here, though I take issue with the bolded. Because clearly he wrongfully assumed this.

If Kiedis was wearing just a sock and nothing else the guy would have known who he was.
No wonder he wasn't recognised.

From news sources he never identified himself so why was it wrong for him to do so? TMZ stated the Stones were leaving at the same time Kiedis was approaching.
