I am trying to get into better shape and I've heard that to condition your whole body at once the best form of exercise is running. I have never been a runner, never did track and have no idea how to start out. Will you share some advice, tips or strategies? Thank you!

Oh, to add, I am a 24 year old woman who will be running primarily at night. I am very out of shape and overweight, again which is my whole reason for doing this, to get healthy. I'm a mom and want to be able to keep up with my son.

For a beginner in running first, you need to buy a good pair of running shoes. They're not over-rated, especially for someone overweight. Starting running is very difficult on the lungs and a lot of people think they can't do it. Just ease yourself into it. Make sure you are running at least half an hour. If you get winded even in the first few minutes, slow to a walk and pick back up when you catch your breath. The more you run the easier it becomes so don't give up. Good luck to you. Being overweight and starting running is very hard on your knees, ankles, and shins so if you experience pain(not soreness) lay off for a couple of days or you'll injure yourself and have to stop for months.
