Any ex-cigarette smokers have tips for someone wanting to quit smoking?

I have been smoking for 4 years (started when I was 17, am now 21). I'm sick of smoking. I hate the way it makes me feel. I want to live a healthy lifestyle and have a better chance of living a long life. The reason I started smoking was, as stupid as this sounds, to look cool. My dad is also a smoker, he's been doing it for 35 years! I don't want to end up like that. My life has been very stressful these past years and I started using cigarettes as a crutch to make me feel better. I do not want to do that anymore. I wouldn't say I'm a heavy smoker, probably 3-6 day depending on my stress level. Even more if I'm going through an agonizing family dilemma. Sometimes I'll go days without smoking. I just want to quit so bad!

I also have another question. How long do the effects of quitting start to kick in once you quit?

the best way dont leav alone and when you want to smoking you just try to ignore it...

My dad was a smoker for almost 50 yrs, he just recently quit, i smoked not too much maybe like 2/day, but the way i made myself quit cuz i hate the smell and then i feel bad after, i over smoked...til it made me sick to my stomach, i shit u not, i can't stand the damn smell or anything, but i've done this 2 times already then i start all over after a yr or two, i'm 26, and i started smoking at 13 with my dad...i quit a few months ago.
Good luck
