Any Hot Spots for a Road Trip from Chicago to Buffalo NY- Canada?

My dad and i are going on a road trip to canada. we're going to niagra falls. We're from Chicago(!!). Any hot spots we can go to on the way? I think we're goin to NY City. Anything special to do on the way there or while in Canada?
