The hubby & I have been thinking about getting a toy breed (we live with condo size restrictions so the dog must be small).

Right now we are considering Mini-Pins and Chihuahuas, I am however leaning toward the mini-pin-from what I've read they are relatively free of inherited diseases/conditions and sound like they have the kind of 'doggy' personality I'm compatible with. I am open to other breeds.......I also love Boston terriers (my grandmother grew up with Bostons) and recently have been intrigued by the coated xolo, rat & Manchester terrier, toy fox terrier,& italian greyhound....mixed breeds can indeed apply as I am no doggy snob however as I stated I do have a size/weight restriction.....we have a huge common area where doggies can be leash walked, however I'm arthritic so a high energy dog such as a Jack Russel isn't a good idea (not fair to the dog)....and I am a stay at home wife so poochie will have constant companionship...along with our tuxedo cat as a buddy (he's fine with dogs)
...thanks for all answers!

So, any toy owners out there who can recommend their particular breed of 'baby'? I do prefer a short coated dog as I rather not deal with a dog that needs professional grooming and 'high maintenance' grooming at home, we live in a milder climate with short winters, at most a dusting of snow in winter, and my talented fingers are adept at crocheting doggie coats & sweaters (my Mom had a mini-dachshund)....thanx!
I'd like to add that I have no young children in the home as all my kids are grown, no grandkids yet but that wouldn't be an issue as I never leave young children & pets unsupervised when together.

Most Terriers and pinscher have dynamic temperment.
Chihuahua
Dachshund

I have owned and raised both and the chihuahua is more to my liking altho I have a soft spot for min pins. Min pins are hyper, very hyper and need more exercise than a chihuahua. As a lifetime member of the chuihuahua lovers club, I highly recommmend them.

Min pins can be quite high energy. I currently have 9, and they are not mellow dogs. I also have 2 chihuahua's and they are much calmer than the min pins. The minpins are always running and jumping and are very busy dogs. They may be a bit too much if you are not looking for high energy.
