Anybody else mad at Verizon for making you get a data plan?

just because you bought certain phones.

My kids have had ENV, ENV-2, ENV-3 phones for about 5 years. My older kid upgraded to the ENV-3 in august. We just have a basic phone package with unlimited pic and text.

So, My youngest daughter just became eligible for an upgrade and went to buy the ENV-3, and they are only selling that phone to people that buy a data package. Its only 10 per month, but, thats an extra $240 over the 2 year plan. Most of the cool phones with qwerty keyboards are in this category. Like the ENV touch, the Rogue, ENV-3 and a bunch of other phones.

The phones for families that only want pic and text are much more limited

Anybody else annoyed at this

Its incredible what they have done

They get kids hooked on certain phones (all the kids have these phones) for years

They they force you to get a data plan JUST FOR KEEPING the same phone model when you upgrade.

They are also creating a social class within their phones now. Kids with the cool phones and data and the kids without .

To say nothing of the fact that parents that can pay the extra $10 now have to worry about unsupervised internet browsing

Of course it's annoying - but nobody is forcing you to get fancy cell phones from Verizon. Your kids will survive with a cheaper simpler phone from a company like Straight Talk, Cricket, etc.
