Some suggestions...

I'm sorry that you were subjected to an English teacher who was trying to make her class relevant to high school students by making them read Twilight. I wouldn't make my students do it. If she makes you write an essay, you should look up some feminist criticisms of the book and write your essay from that point of view. They make some very good points about the unhealthiness of Edward and Bella's relationship and how disturbing it is that thirties years after the women's movement began so many women and girls think that Edward is the perfect boyfriend. Even the stadardbearer of conservative magazines The National Review wrote an article criticizing this book for taking women backwards.

Another online review wrote about how Bella is your classic Mary Sue character. It's not a compliment to have your character called a Mary Sue. Basically, it says that you have no imagination when it comes to character development. You should look up the definition in Wikipedia and write about how Bella is the classic Mary Sue.

I'd love to see how your English teacher responds. It would definately tell you whether she is open-minded or not.

Found your way to Interview

I'm so glad that you found Interview with a Vampire. I teach at a public high school where a lot of the teenage girls are hooked on Twilight and I found out that they didn't have Interview or The Vampire Lestat in the school library. So, when the library had a faculty book recommendation stand put up in the library, I donated copies of the books and wrote a recommendation for girls who loved vampires to try them.

Don't believe the Stephenie Meyers hype because it's just hype

I've been taking the whole Stephenie Meyer is the next J.K. Rowling hype with a huge grain of salt. A big part of what made J.K. Rowling a billionaire is that she sold books to everyone, from little second graders of both genders to teenagers of both genders to grown adults of both genders. Stephenie Meyer's fanbase simply isn't that large. She mostly appeals to teenage girls and some grown women who still wish that someone rich would come along and take care of them.

This book blows, end of story. People can have their own opinions of the story, so if you're really that immature to want to kill someone for simply not liking the series, then see a psychologist. Really. Do the world a favor and read some Poe, Byron, Shelley, Keats, Carrol, Shakespear, or something else that actually will teach you something about the world, children. I'm a psychologist and I see hundreds of people a day with problems, and none of them include the pathetic shit that this book entails. Not even my 14 year old patients were stupid enough to walk into my office and blubber on about this book and all their fanciful dreams of a stoic, pale, piece of shit vampire that DOES NOT NOR WILL EVER EXIST. Kindly go back to school if you cannot comprehend what I and millions of others have just explained to you. You can reply to this in any hateful manner you wish. At the end of the day, you're still wasting your time whereas I am helping people in their lives and collecting my paycheck, whilst caring for my husband and kids. You can wish death upon me, my husband or my children, but I don't believe in any of that hocus pocus magic shit, so you may shove it so far into your rectum that it slides off of your tongue. Good Day, pathetic fans of this most dreadful piece of literature. May you read something real, one day.

really really awful

acting bad, editing bad, dialogue bad, not quite sure that there is a redeeming feature. lost boys crossed with dawsons creek this is not. dawsons creek stoked with tepid vampire for stupid people who cant think for themselves this is. lets shove every emotion, every movement and every step towards any sort of meaning or conclusion down the viewers throat. this film has no identity. it cant think for itself. its rubbish. painfully so. avoid.....

Vampires Don't Sparkle.

You're not alone.
I'm horrified at myself for wasting the time I spent delving into that bit of dreck, and cannot for the LIFE of me understand how anyone with more than half a dozen brain cells could actually like the series.
I've come across bowls of porridge that had greater depth of character than Bella and Edward.
Honestly, the only thing I would recommend doing with a copy of this book is to use it as kindling for a nice, big bonfire.

i loved the books... the movie was a bit of a disapointment after reading twilight but i hink that was a flaw from the director, the new moon sequal has a diff director so will hopefully be better.. but all u people who r saying that the books suck ?!?!?!?!?! ur probaly all freaks who arnt intelligent enough to string the words together to make the sentances make sense, meyers did a brilliant job with the books and 4 those of u who dnt like the whole vamprire fals in love thing... dont read a book about a love story between a vampire and a human.. realy its that simple.. course this book isnt gonna apeal to every1 but its not like it goes out of its way 2 trick u into believeing that its about sumat differant than what it is.

Twilight butchered vampire legend

I did not read the book and did not see the movie. But I already hate it.
I love vampire legends. From what I've read on the Internet and heard from a cousin who did read the book (and hated it) I can conclude that the writer "raped" the vampire legends.
In what Universe do Vampires Sparkle??
A vegetarian Vampire?? He doesn't kill Humans??
A vampire is the perfect killing machine and we all want him to stay evil. In Bram Stoker's story he even fed a baby to his three brides.

If you start butchering the legend of the vampires you can never make it up with the rest of the story.

There are a few twisted fans out there, I've been in a fight with a girl who really was in love with the series. She just couldn't understand that I'm not gonna look at a movie that butchers my favorite fictional monster. She's all about the love, romance etc in the story.
Why couldn't the writer make a good "love between human and vampire" story without butchering the existing vampire legends.

It's not that I hate it. It's so full of hype. Never even attempted to see what's the buzz about. I think it's for shallow teenagers who don't have a social life, who don't have real boyfriends and just fantasizing with this guy. I think it sucks and annoying.

Twilight-epic??? I don't think so >_>

I totally agree with Lena!!! Im just 14 and I've read he count of Monte Cristo and Pride and Prejudice and seriously, Twilight is nothing compared to it... Twilight is so predictable and the story is so shallow... >_> I can't believe that most fo the girls are going crazy because of this Twilight.. I've read the book and watched the movie and it was horrible... And if you think this is the best, you seriously need to do some more reading so that you'll undrstand what it means to read a Good book..

These are all just my personal opinions.. so if you have any problems with it... Well, it's not my problem anymore! :P

people just have to read more books. And to that unregistered guest who says he/she's not bitching, he/she actually is doing it.

obviously a fan.

You want to read about love? You can read Pablo Neruda's poems. One poem is more romantic than any of Meyer's books combined.

Twilight discusts me

Twilight discusts me

The only really frightening thing about twilight is how addictive it can be. When I got to the 3rd chapter i was absolutely furious by how unbelievably simplistic it was and threw it on the floor. But then I immediately picked it up again and read on. This went on till the end of the book together with rants and complaints about how idiotic bella is. Ironic huh?

Well I simply cannot give an explanation to this. But I'm certain than I HATE Twilight. It is one of the most unimaginatives books I've read. Here's my list of the main reasons i hate it:
1. The extremely repetetive description of PERFECT Edward. Mayer uses the words "perfect","beautiful" and "velvet"(for his voice) 20 times in each chapter
2. The fact that Bella is THE most weak and feable girl in the world. Why the hell can't she do ANYTHING without Edward?
3. The irritating repetition of words and phrases (except the description of Edward). Are these the only words you know mrs mayer? e.g. He mused
4. Bella is supposed to be a loner and introvert. Then as soon as she comes to the school 4 guys fall for her in just a matter of 5 chapters. The too-normal-too-be-worth Mike, Tyler and Eric and of course the inhumanly beautiful Edward.
5. The shallow "love", if you can call it love, between Bella and Edward. How can you fall in love with someone just because they are HOT or because they are completely incapable of doing anything without you?

Well I've calmed down a bit. I'll return with more soon
DAMN YOU TWILIGHT

Hated It.

Thank God I am not the only one who can't stand this book. I was suckered into reading this book because a bunch of people at work read it, raved about it, and lent it to me. It was just...awful. Honestly, I have no idea how it's even humanly possible to write an entire book with a character as lifeless, wooden, and completely devoid of any discernable personality as Bella. It was sort of fascinating in a way, how she manages to remain as static as cardboard throughout the entire book. And Edward....what a mopey little emo brat. I just wanted to smack him the entire time. I just don't "get it." It was just a bundle of hackneyed cliches, and it takes about 350 pages to even get to any decent action, and even then, it just neatly and magically "resolves" itself, as if the writer was too lazy to finish writing the action scenes. Why not leave out the whole first part and just make it into a short story? Nothing happens in the book except for about 15 pages towards the end, anyway.

The only character that showed a glimmer of promise to be interesting and fully fleshed out was Alice. But that does not make it worth continuing to read the rest of the series. It was torturous trying to make it through the first book. Gah!
