I haven't seen the original film in years. I thought Speilberg scrapped the project and objected to it, because he didn't like the idea of toons fighting in WWII in the sequel, but it's an actuality:

I'm hoping in the sequel they'll get clearance to use licensed toons that didn't appear in the original story. Some of these characters were either considered and not used or were dropped from the original film:
Popeye
Pepe Le Pew
Tom and Jerry
Chilly Willy
Mighty Mouse
I'm hoping it will be worth it.
