...interest? I notice that when people seem to associate having tons of knowledge or getting top grades in school means you are naturally intelligent. I also notice people think that if you don't do well in school or only knows things the average person knows, you are dumb. I disagree.
The reason top students get such high grades or why some people have tons of knowledge is because they are interested in the subject or are interested in doing well in school.Truth be told even if you have less than average intelligent being able to get straight As in tough classes such as Calculus if you are interested in the subject and you really want to do well. This is why:
Ever notice that kids who do poorly in school are able to memorize countless number of facts of other things that they are interested in? I mean take a friend of mine who is a hardcore Sailor Moon fanatic. She get low grades in school usually Ds and Fs except in art in which she got an A+. However her knowledge of Sailor Moon simply is unbelievable. She knows every detail of each character in Sailor Moon from the Tuxedo Mask's height to Sailor Moon's civilian identity. She knows every characters's personality and backstory from The Tuxedo Mask's childhood to Sailor Moon's past to what food Usagis loves. She memorized the names of every villains and minor characters in Sailor Moon. She memorized every Sailor Moon song in Japanese and English! Heck she memorized the lyrics of the Italian, German, and French versions of Sailor Moon! She even knows the voice actors and actresses of Sailor Moon of Sailor Moon in every language it was released in!She knows tons of facts of Sailor Moon and can answer any question about Sailor Moon instantly- yet she does poorly in school. Why? She LOVES SAILOR MOON BUT FIND SCHOOL VERY BORING! It is also the same reason she does so well in art!
Another example would be athletes knowing so well in sports, I mean take a Hardcore Football Fan in High School. He does poorly in schools and gets mostly Ds and Cs.However he knows the names of every player of every football team.He knows what every techniques in football is called and could perform them with ease.He could just read the recent Newspaper football game and he will suddenly memorize every fine details of the game including all the players names ,numerous positions held in the game, the coaches' names, and how the game literally went word for word in just one reading!Yet he is unable to do well in school. Now lets take a student who gets straight As and is in the honor society. He does not care about football at all.So when he is forced to memorize even the basic terms of football for PE,he can't even remember a single term of football. He spends hours and hours trying to just memorize the terms-Yet he could only memorize and easily recall 3 words in football:Reciever,Score, and Defender.
Why couldn't this student who does so well in school couldn't memorize simple football terms? Why could the hardcore Football fan easily memorize all the facts of football yet fail struggle in a simple history worksheet and fail a basic Algebra quiz?
Simple:The A student is interested in school subject but doesn't care about football while the Football fan doesn't give a **** about school subjects like history but loves football so much and is so devoted to the sport he is interested in memorizing every fact.
You see you don't really need to be gifted to do well in school subject. You just have to be interested and be able to make your self enjoy those subject. If you make yourself have so much interest in academics and learn to enjoy them even the hardest subjects such as Physics and Calculus will be as easy as doing simple addition problems.Really whether you do well in school is based on your interest. This also applies for any other subject or hobby. If you are crazy about Judo you will easily memorize and know how to perform every techniques with ease.If you love chess you will quickly memorize strategies and tactics of the game.If you love Spanish hell it will be far easier to remember proper Spanish grammer and words than it will be to memorize English words and learn proper English grammer even if English is your first language and is the primary language you use!
Anyone here agree that whether you do well in school is based on how much you enjoy school and love academic?Anyone here agree that people naturally being gifted is a flawed concept and that it is interest that causes people to know so much or do so well in school?
