Are Blu Ray torrents better than DVD torrents?

Hi, I just began downloading a torrent and realized that it is a Blu Ray and the file is a large MP4. My question is will Blu Ray torrents play in a higher/better quality than DVD (usually smaller .avi) if they both claim to be 1080p? Do you think its worth downloading Blu Ray torrents over DVD.
