I've just sold my car and looking for a replacement before it gets to cold to take 'reliable ' London transport. My price range is £3000 - £4000. I've had bad luck with French n Italian car ie fiats and Renault. I like mini coopers but worried it to small to get in Citreon c4 looks nice but that French right? Or maybe the ford focus hatchback 2005 model and up. Thanks

Citrons are very good cars. Fords are not so good.
The most reliable cars are citrons, volkswagons and renaults.

No, typical French car with horrific electrical issues. Diesels are plagued by faults too, avoid at all costs.
The Focus, Golf, or Honda Civic would be the sort of cars I'd be looking at in that class/price range.

I have had my C4 for 3 months now and I am very happy with its performance.
It is extremely roomy, comfortable and was lower on the insurance than my last car which was smaller.
Before you decide either C4 or Focus, it may be an idea to check the insurance rates for each as they're similar cars but the insurance prices can differ a lot.
For me, the C4 ticked more boxes than the Focus (eg cheaper insurance) even though they look and perform similarly.

I'd maybe add another £1,000 because the only ones I've seen within that price range have always been 100,000 miles and over.

But if the servicing is upto date then like any car and generally looked after, it should be a very reliable car.
