I got a new phone recently and wanted to add features like ringtones and wallpapers. There are tons of websites offering them for "free", but is there some catch? If I got, say, a ringtone from a site will I receive texts and phone calls after the fact? There must be some advertiser dollars in there somewhere. Are there any sites without any catches?

Some websites actually are free. Here are the ones I use, the only catch is you have to make an account. They never send me anything I don't want.

pikazec2012 is wrong. It's legal. That's because YOU agreed to sign up with them. But no, it's not free. They'll send you advertisements through text and bill you per month through your phone contract.

However, there ARE some free sites for that stuff but you generally have to download it from their sites and manually put it on your phone (via USB, Memory Stick, etc). These legitimate sites are hard to separate from the bad ones though. Like what the computer wallpaper and screensavers sites did, there are a lot of sites of that nature that'll give you constant pop ups and install malware on your computer. Be careful when searching for one and do your research before you trust the site enough.

If you got a Motorola phone for example, you can hope over to http://www.motorolafans.com/ as they got some neat stuff there. You have to find sites like that. I had one for Sony Ericsson but lost it.

Those websites that have 'free' written in capitals and bold and are flashing, they definitely have some catch, don't go for them

For free mobile apps, wallpapers, screensavers, games, etc, i use zedge.com
There is absolutely no catch
Just create an account or mention the make and model of ur phone and it will show all supported apps, games, wallpapers, screen savers, etc

www.zedge.com

Or you could also use getjar.com
once again, no catch, no fees, no charge, and no problems

www.getjar.com

But i reccommend zedge.com

Good luck!

it depends. sometimes it is free but not legal. other times they spam you with texts. either way its not a good idea
