Are mid 90s Ford Explorers all around good SUVs?

A friend of mine says mid 90s explorer kinda all around suck but thats not what i read online. im looking into buying a midsize suv within the next week and ive been looking at explorers like these

Explorers are known for tipping? i like to drive somewhat fast but not sports car fast.
