Are spacers any good for slightly lifting a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I was thinking of buying 3.5" to 5" spacers for my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, is that a good idea? and how much difference does it make???? Can you tell that it was lifted by looking at it??
