Are the Ninja Gaiden Sigma games for PS3 hard?

People say the games are extremely frusterating and difficult. I love hack and slash games like God Of War, Devil May Cry, Prince Of Persia, etc. Is the difficulty like God Of War or is it a lot harder?

Btw im talking about Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
