they way they degrade out military men, saying god is punishing america for the gays we have? should someone shoot them to stop their so called free speech rants of hatred?

My place is not to judge them, but in my opinion, they are scum. They also do NOT follow what Jesus said in Matthew 7 which is do not judge others. Jesus also does not approve of people screaming either. If the Westboro church would reread all of the book of Matthew and think about it, then they would stop what they are doing.

This is what bothers me about this case.

Protesting at a funeral and taking joy in the fact someone is dead is horrible. Holding up signs that praise the death of someone is also horrible. Of course the loved one of the deceased would be severely distressed by such things.

But according to the Supreme Court, that's free speech.

Now let us compare another form of speech that is not allowed under the Constitution:

Someone slanders your good name. Let's say you are accused of being a child molester or a rapist and none of that is true or even possibly true. Would such comments inflict emotional distress? Hell yes. Could you lose your job? You might. Could your reputation be damaged forever? Yes. Can you sue that person and maybe win? Sure. But remember this:

You are not dead. Nobody you know and love is dead. All that happened was your good name was trashed and you can get paid.

So tell me why that form of speech is not allowed but taking joy at the death of another and putting their loved ones through agony is o.k.?

What the Supreme Court is saying is funeral agony is fine but life agony can get you some coin.

I think I would rather be alive and smeared vs. dead.

They do have free speech, but it's one thing to use your free speech to voice your opinion and it's another to attack an entire group of people and threaten they are going to hell or what not.

I personally believe they /are/ out of line. I don't know too much about them though myself, but I have read that some people believe they do their angry/hateful rants for attention, which gains them more popularity which in turn will bring in more money. Also, if they upset someone enough and that person retaliates, they could sue for even more cash.

Or they could just be a large church of very opinionated members with extremely strong personalities and values.

Even though most of us absolutely hates what the Westboro Church, and I use that term loosely, is doing, they do have the right to do it. We don't want to start limiting free speech, because where does it stop, and who decides what can be said and who can say it? I would love to stop the speech of radical Islam, but we can't do that, because this is still America, for now anyway.

Kayla, they are a group of about 18, and lots of them are family members. Not a large church.

So you want to KILL someone over words? And you ask if THEY are out of line and evil?

What they shout is wrong, but they have that right. If we take away their right, how about we take YOUR right to protest next?
