Are there different versions of the same movie ? (released in different regions)?

Hi,
After watching "We Bought a Zoo" i noticed that some scenes shown in the international trailer and stills of the movie (on the internet) weren't in the movie i saw. I'm from Australia. I was wondering if different versions of a movie are shown in different regions ?
