At what resolution should i rip my divx movie files for my ipod classic?

i have 700mb avi movie files(aspect ratio 16:9).. i rip them giving 320x240 but the problem is the ipod being small shows it in a wide screen format where the movie occupies only half the screen at the middle:( at what resolution should i rip to play fully?
