Hello,

I have a 2002 Audi A4 and I have a dead battery, and the secondary hood lever in the grille appears to be broken. I'm looking for a cheap fix.

When I give the hood latch a pull, the trunk pops a few inches open. I move around to the grille and give the little lever in the grille a pull and nothing happens. Nada. Feels mushy and I'm pretty sure it is broken.

It's pretty dark in there and I can't really see inside the grill to figure out how the secondary hood latch works.

The little handle in the grill is pulled outward, which pulls a metal spine that releases the hood. Due to some pivoting and angulation, I'm not sure if the spine releases up, down, or sideways. Anybody know how to release this latch so I can open my hood and give the car a jump?!

I was hoping to use a coat hanger to pull or a very long screwdriver to push on the lever, but I don't know which way to push. It's absolutely frigid outside right now and the car is broken down on the street.

I am a grad student and butt poor and would like to figure out a solution that avoids having the car towed and operated on!

Thank you so much for the responses!!
