S stanschim New member May 14, 2011 #2 Let x be the average speed of the snowmobile. Then, x/6 miles must be the distance covered in 10 minutes. Now, x - 16 is the average speed of the skier. Since the two distances covered are the same: x/6 = (x - 16)(5/6) x = 5(x - 16) x = 5x - 80 4x = 80 x = 20 mph
